What is my number 1 stress and PCOS reducing strategy? I’ll get to that in a moment, but first… As the stress ebbs away from your now relaxing muscles and your mind eases from racing to calm, you begin to release the pent up pressure, the heaviness in your heart and the strain from your body, mind and soul. Feels good, doesn’t it?
But did you know that stress and PCOS are intricately linked, from the anxiety and depression so common in this syndrome to the hormonal changes that occur with each?
Reduced sex hormone binding globule (SHBG) means higher levels of free and active hormones like the acne and excessive hair growth producing testosterone, and the tender breast and clotty, flooding periods associated with excessive oestrogen.
Stress and PCOS can both reduce fertility, gut function, and mental clarity. They can both cause weight gain, adversely alter our food choices – which can cause sugar cravings and overeating – and stop us from engaging in healthy levels of exercise regularly. I know, I can hear your thoughts from here… ‘If it’s not one thing, it’s another’ or ‘This stupid syndrome! Is there nothing it doesn’t effect!’ Maybe even ‘What’s the point?’ However, if we flip these thoughts on their head, we discover there are simple strategies, which once implemented daily, can seriously and positively impact on our health, and reduce both stress and PCOS signs and symptoms. Now, that’s pretty cool!
By reducing your stress, you help to flick the hormonal switch back in your favour. You help to turn on your health light. As you may already know from my previous posts, and my Amazon bestselling book Conquer Your PCOS Naturally, stress and PCOS need to both be addressed to conquer your PCOS signs and symptoms. This is not just an addition or a nice idea, it is a critical step… a super important strategy.
So what is my number 1 stress and PCOS reducing strategy?
It’s simple. Meditation.
Meditation has been used to calm the body, mind and spirit for almost as long as human kind has walked the face of this Earth. It can easily be implemented into any lifestyle. From celebs to Tibetan monks, politicians to normal folks like you and me, this is a powerful practice.
For those of you fresh to this concept, start simply. Find a comfortable place. Sit, or lay, whichever feels most comfortable.
Play some music, such as this http://youtu.be/suW_Fhv9wPU Focus on the music. As thoughts invariably take place, just let them go.
When you first begin to meditate, it may seem like these thoughts are a constant presence. You may feel like a failure. You are not, this is normal in the beginning. Just let them go and focus on the music. As you practice more, you will become better able to let your mind go.
For many, a guided meditation will be considerable help. This is when someone guides you through meditative steps. You follow their instructions and listen to their voice. This is my preferred way to meditate.
Meditation is so valuable that when you grab your copy of Conquer Your PCOS Naturally, I’ve included a bonus meditation gift for you. Actually, I’ve included $327 worth of gifts, but I’ve also included my own personal, daily 10-minute guided mediation. It’s a lovely and empowering way to relax!

P.S. If you are worried about being able to meditate ‘correctly’, please don’t. One of the lovely things is, there is no right or wrong. Just begin. As with any skill, practice makes perfect. And this practice is easy, enjoyable and you may even find yourself wondering how you ever did without it!
