I just wanted to write a quick but essential note about PCOS miscarriage.
Why?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome increases the risk of miscarriage. In fact, the scary stats show that 30-50% of cysters miscarry in the first trimester.
Sometimes this is because the embryo is unviable. This may be due to a genetic error, poor egg quality, or damaged sperm. Sometimes, however, it is because progesterone levels sadly drop. As this happens, the lining of the womb is shed, along with the fertilised egg.
How can you reduce your risk of PCOS miscarriage?
You can use progesterone once you know you are pregnant, so speak to your doctor before conception, and you can discuss this as an option. Then, as soon as you know you are pregnant, book yourself in with your doctor and begin, if needed.
You can use a herb to boost progesterone. If you have been tracking your temperature and cycle while trying to conceive, continue to do so. If and when you notice your temperature drop, consult your natural health specialist about supplementing to help boost your progesterone levels.
It’s also extremely important to make positive lifestyle choices before conception. For example, boosting thyroid health means achieving a healthier Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) level, which in turn leads to healthier ovulation. This improves not only the egg but also the quality of the “hole” left in the ovary from which the egg came. This hole becomes a gland, called the corpus luteum. This gland is responsible for producing the critical pregnancy-maintaining hormone, progesterone.
I hope this helps ease the worry a little, knowing that there is hope and help available.
