Do you feel like you are, at times, overtaken by anger? Do you suffer from depression, paranoid thoughts, tremors and acne?
If you suffer from mental health issues, you are not alone. Anxiety and PCOS depression are growing in occurrence. Stress, overwhelm, and lack of support all play their role, as well as triggers, sometimes unknown. Nutritional deficiencies though? These are much overlooked.
The brain must complete certain processes to create our ‘happy hormones’ like dopamine and serotonin. Like a long road trip, you can’t get to the next town and the final destination without certain stops along the way and enough petrol in the tank. In our brain, we require vitamin B6, zinc, and omega 3 fats to act as these towns and get us to our final happy hormone destination. When we lack in these nutrients, we can feel sad, alone, depressed and anxious.
If you experience these signs and symptoms, and you have an explosive temper, you may have a condition called Pyrrole Disorder.
There are signs and symptoms, as below, which occur more frequently in pyrrole disorder. Not heard of this condition? Not many people have.
Many, such as acne, pain, anxiety, depression, cold hands or feet, glucose intolerance, obesity, are common in PCOS.

I remember a patient coming in and talking about her son-in-law. His symptoms described this to a tee. He appeared to her to be the textbook definition of Jeckle and Hyde. Completely pleasant and loving one moment, then very agitated and angry the next. Uncontrollably “road rage” angry that is. Completely consumed with rage. He had been in fights and trouble with the law because of it, and his relationship with his Dad had diminished as a result. This pyrrole sufferer had had enough, and although I advised him through her, following his story was rewarding.
We started him on three simple nutrients. Zinc, omega 3 fat (but as flaxseed oil, not fish oil in this case, as fish oil can increase aggression in pyrrole sufferers) and B6 (always best in a B complex). The changes for him in his life were amazing. His anger disappeared, his mood became stable and his social skills improved greatly.
Although it will take some time and work to restore his relationship with his Father, this is where the healing began.
It’s easy to blame and judge people for their behaviours and we all need to take responsibility for our choices. However, I think it’s a little like yelling at your car because it can’t make the long road trip without any petrol in the tank. Our brain needs the right nutrients to work, and pyrrole sufferers need more of certain nutrients, namely zinc, omega 3 fats and B6, to function well.

This article is so excellent. This will help
my 20 year old in college who has PCOS.
Do you see many PCOS patients with

Hi Deborah,
I am so sorry for the long delay! I missed your message.
The MTHFR gene seems to pop up in so many different conditions. It will be interesting to see if and where any link to PCOS might take us.
How did your testing with your family go?
