It’s Time To Heal Your PCOS, So What’s Your ‘Bigger Than’?

There’s something I’ve noticed after 13 years as a clinician, an incredible phenomena and something that separates the sufferers from those moving onward to a happier, contented place in themselves, and in this world. There’s something precious that helps those who’ve experienced pain and struggle, trauma and tragedy, to reach upward and beyond. To lift themselves over the hurdles, which at times may seem to have been viciously and continually thrown in their path. To find strength and growth and healing.

I’ve witness a similar set of circumstances turn one patient bitter, and given another wings to fly.

Pain, in all it’s forms, is exhausting. It commands your attention, as it’s designed to do. After all, it’s there for protective reasons. To tell you ‘there’s a problem here!’ However, sometimes the problem – the immediate threat – resolves, but the dial on the pain radio – for whatever reason – has been broken and you can’t turn the volume off, or even down. It sucks. But we have an innate ability to heal, our body wants to and is constantly trying to be well. We just need to help, to lovingly and holistically, encourage it.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’ve wept because my neck and arm won’t stop burning. And you know that zap you get when you place your tongue on the end of one of those double D batteries? Magnify it, run it the full length of you arm, add in a nauseating heavy ache, and kill the off switch. I can tell you from personal experience, it’s not pleasant. There are also the PCOS signs and symptoms I once knew so well. The crippling emotional pain, as well as the physical. The belief that no-one will ever love me because how could they? I’m less than… Fat, hairy, acne ridden, inflamed, unwomanly. (What stories are you telling yourself?)

But the thing is… I have a choice. We all have a choice. I can allow myself to get immersed in the horrible sensation, in the why me of it all, in the unfairness of this world. After all, I can no longer practice as a Chiropractor the way I had for all those years. After 9 years of study, I’d “lost” a career that I’d so desperately wanted since I was a wee pup way back in Year 9.

Or, I can take on a new path, a path in line with my values… one that let’s me become more of who I really am, by setting aside my theorectical old me, and focusing on helping others. In whatever form I can. This is important to connect with who I really am, not who I thought I was as a result of my career standing and how my patients looked up to me. There’s always an aspect of ego attached to jobs, don’t you think?

You, my lovely reader, have been a big part of my healing. How? You are my bigger than. Helping women with PCOS, and those who support them, is my life’s mission, it’s my bigger than. Bigger than how? Bigger than me. Serving you, empowering you to see your life as more than you think it can be, and to encourage you to experience wellness and share your gifts with the world… well, let’s say that it my huge bigger than. Bigger than all of us for the sake of the greater good and the broader world. And healing you helps me heal too, physically, emotionally, spiritually.

What's Your Bigger Than?

What’s Your Bigger Than?

As Oprah says:

“The lesson here is clear, and that is, if you’re hurting, you need to help somebody ease their hurt. If you’re in pain, help somebody else’s pain. And when you’re in a mess, you get yourself out of the mess helping somebody out of theirs. And in the process, you get to become a member of what I call the greatest fellowship of all, the sorority of compassion and the fraternity of service.”

By helping others, we help not only that person, and ourselves, but we help heal our world and regain the sense of connectedness and community we need to heal the planet. Whether you believe in the energy changes this causes to reverberate helpfully around the world (it’s probably clear that I do), or just that helping others helps them and helps yourself, is not so important.”

Focusing on your bigger than will help you to heal your PCOS… and yourself.

What are you waiting for?
